Shorty Rogers began as a bugler with the Furriers Post of Jewish War Veterans Boy Scout drum and bugle corps in The Bronx, New York. He played with a number of big bands in the late 1940s, and arranged for Woody Herman, later going to Stan Kenton and His Orchestra.
