Jack Hulbert--the brother of actor Claude Hulbert--began his acting career at Cambridge, where he worked in various plays and variety revues. He later had a very successful career on the stage in comedies and musicals. His film debut was in Elstree Calling (1930), in which he appeared with his wife, Cicely Courtneidge.
