Ivan Karp was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He established himself as a formidable presence in the art world beginning with his work as a critic for The Village Voice and continuing work at the Castelli Gallery and eventually opening his own gallery, O.K. Harris, in SOHO, New York in 1969.
