Ayelet Ben-Shahar was born in Tel-Aviv, Israel, to a Chilean mother and a Middle Eastern father. her father is a former IDF military general (Hebrew: Aluf-Mishne bemil' ) that upon his retirement from the army he converted to an orthodox religious life and now serves as a Rabbi in the city of Bnei-Brak,one of the most religious cities in Israel.
