Rolands Kalnins，He was born in civil servants family. As child went to Riga where 1937-1940 attended 1st gymnasium. In 1947 started work in Rigas Kinostudija as director's assistant working with directors Yuli Raizman', Pavel Armand' and Leonids Leimanis.First work as director dates from 1959.
