Prima Rusdi was born in Gottingen, West Germany in 1967, and was brought up in Jakarta, Indonesia. She graduated with a journalism degree concentrating in mass communication from the University of Indonesia. She received a scholarship from the Australian Government and attended the University of Canberra and graduated with an M.A.
