Dary Reis was born in Formigueiro, at that time a small village in São Sepé County - Rio Grande do Sul - Brazil on February 12th, 1926. He was the third son of João Felipe dos Reis and Idalina Berger. After Dary was born the family moved to a larger town called Santa Cruz do Sul - RS.
