John C. McDonnell was born on the Southside of Chicago and graduated from Brother Rice H.S. in 1979. He attended Northern Illinois University, and began his career in 1980 as a stand-up comedian. He has performed on numerous TV shows with several appearances on A&E's "An Evening at the Improv" (1989-1993) and Fox's "Comic Strip Live".
